Aladdin is late to Alice’s Tea Party
Welcome to my month of insanity! Buckle your seat beats because I’m hoping to do a little of the unexpected with these posts.
So, when deciding on the letter “A” for my first post, I immediately was drawn to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland because of the story. I think it’s one that connects to the child in all of us. I can tell you that when I was a kid in school, there was a time or two when in class I would venture “down the rabbit hole,” in my imagination to some other wonderful place. I know that some of you have probably still done this at one of your staff meetings, so no judgement. *giggles*
But when I was considering this post, another story came and pushed to be included – Aladdin. I never really knew the history behind the story (check the link, pretty cool stuff), but I will say that while I enjoyed the story, it was never one of my favorites.
So, there I was, getting ready for bed and this idea came to me (I had NOT been drinking) that what if Alice merely fell into a Genie’s lamp instead of Wonderland? Come on, we can work with this! (Excuse me while I change into my rabbit costume – come, follow me down this hole.)
Alice comes upon the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and while everyone is there having a jolly time, they notice that a few chairs are empty. (How many of you have celebrated your “Merry Un-Birthday”?) That silly Genie, the Mad Hatter says, is out and about. If he’s late, its because he’s helping someone. Alice is naturally concerned for their friend, even though she’s not sure who or what a Genie is, but because the Genie is helping Aladdin, Alice never gets to meet him.
Wouldn’t that be an odd, but fun mix? Okay, I know you are all probably thinking I’m crazy, but seriously consider perhaps Aladdin’s degree of separation from Alice might have been the Genie? What if we mashed up other tales like this? Which two would you choose?

What is the genie was property is a mad at her. What if the mad Hatter to make unlimited wishes. What kind of wishes would he make? I could be an interesting story.
This is why I love writing! What IF the Mad Hatter had three wishes?
I agree. An odd but fun mix! I like it.
Have fun on the A to Z!
I’m #1628 on the A to Z Challenge. Thesaurus Tyrannosaurus. Next time, I’m going to choose a theme that’s easier to spell. http://www.julievalerie.com/thesaurus-tyrannosaurus/
I’m very curious about your theme! 🙂 Is this your first time with the challenge?
I saw a thing online yesterday that said, “What if the Indiana Jones movies are Han Solo’s dreams while he was in carbonite?” Not really a mash-up, but funny.
I can’t think of a good mash-up off the top of my head, but I wanted to thank you for mentioning the A to Z challenge yesterday. I wrote my first post this morning, after a very long absence. I’m not sure where it’s going (surely a few rabbit holes will be explored there as well), but it feels good to get started again. Thanks!
Tina, I’m glad you’re joining in the challenge. Like you, I take this challenge to not only get my daily writing habit back in check, but to explore again the fun side of writing, which I believe is like falling down those rabbit holes. You never know where you are going to end up and that is the fun!
If the Queen of Hearts got the three wishes? No one in Wonderland would have any heads! If she weren’t careful in her wording, she might even lose her own! Ouch!!
I’m imagining the Rabbit sneaking into the Queen’s chamber and stealing the lamp… 🙂
Haha love your mash-up, brilliant! If I did a mash up it would be Disney’s Fantasia with Alice and Wonderland too. This would be most certainly a trip-induced cartoon magic-thon. Thanks for popping by my A to Z challenge.
Whoa – that would be an awesome mash-up! Imagine the music that would accompany this story?!
I don’t think it’s crazy at all – but really sure what that says about me! Looking forward to more!

Thanks Rosa! I’m hoping everyone enjoys these posts!
I can totally see you venturing down the rabbit hole, and I believe you’re beckoning us down one right now–today and throughout this month. What a fun project!
I hope you enjoy it! I’m thinking of hosting a “Merry Un-Birthday” celebration at the end of the month with a giveaway. 🙂
Interesting…what if Sleeping Beauty and Snow White were mixed together? Perhaps Sleeping Beauty is actually being kept asleep by Snow White and one of her sleepy companions??
That’s interesting. Would they have the same villains?
Hmm. I was thinking that perhaps Snow White would turn into the villain to be the fairest one of them all or perhaps Grumpy and Doc are manipulating the whole thing until Sleeping Beauty and Snow White realize they need to team up.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds seven men living alone suspicious. 🙂 (Even if they are dwarfs.)
What a creative twist! I love it!
