Holiday Stress

Holiday Stress

I’m always amazed at how quickly we seem to fly through the holidays. It all begins with the perfect Halloween costume. (Did you notice how many Elsa’s were running around out there this year? My daughter was one of them.) You search high and low for that one character that your kids are looking for and before you know it, you’re in a sugar coma from “taxing” your kids candy loot and having to consider what plans you might have for Thanksgiving.

I love Thanksgiving. It’s nice to have a holiday that’s sole purpose is pause and give thanks for all that you have.

But, before we even got the Halloween decorations down, Christmas decorations have been set up in stores all around us and my daughter is now super excited about seeing Santa.

Now, I understand that Christmas is really just around the corner (I’m told we only have seven Saturday’s left!), but really, where are the decorations for Thanksgiving? Where are the Thanksgiving activities to celebrate this awesome holiday?

So now the pressure is on to plan for both holidays. The toys are out en-masse in all the stores and I’m getting bombarded with Black Friday emails and catalogues. Just last weekend, my daughter and I went to a Christmas shopping event in our local area downtown, and while it was fun, I couldn’t help but be a little sad that it wasn’t themed for Thanksgiving. (I guess they wouldn’t have made as much money that way.)

So Christmas is coming. I should state here that I really do LOVE Christmas, even if it seems to be taking over the month of November. I get so excited to watch all my favorite Christmas movies and TV shows, listen to Christmas music, and setting up my decorations.

I’m looking forward to seeing my family and catching up with everyone. All that’s left is for the first snow to softly fall outside the window so I can curl up on the sofa with a blanket, a fire, and a great book.

In the spirit of the holidays, I thought it would be neat to list some holiday resources here – something to help put you in the mood for this special time of year and.
